The Institute of Building Physics, Services, and Construction (Unit of Building Physics) at TU Graz has an opening for a


Researcher / PhD candidate (m/f/d) in the area of combined effects of thermal, visual, olfactory, and acoustic environmental stimuli


30 hours/week, beginning February 1st, 2023, limited to 3 years



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish a consistent and updated knowledge base and theoretical framework on the topic
  • Develop a systematic approach for experimental multi-sensory studies
  • Conduct experiments in the laboratory as well as surveys and interviews in the field
  • Development of important and fundamental biotechnologies in the institute
  • Develop a structure for a general multi-sensory comfort model
  • Apply and evaluate different modeling approaches by using objective and subjective experimental data and to assess the strengths and weaknesses of modeling approaches


The project's partners are Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (PI: Prof. Andreas Wagner), RWTH Aachen University (PI: Prof. Marcel Schweiker), and TU Graz (PI: Prof. Ardeshir Mahdavi).


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in building science, engineering, or allied fields
  • Experience with research in building physics (thermal, visual, acoustic aspects of indoor environments) 
  • Knowledge of computational modeling, data processing, and statistics
  • Capacity to conduct experimental lab-based research and indoor-environmental monitoring
  • Capacity to work within the framework of a multi-national research project

We offer a minimum annual gross salary based on full-time of € 42,820.40, overpayment possible depending on qualification and experience.
