Applications are invited for a PhD position in Molecular Neuroscience at the Medical University of Innsbruck in the group of Professor Galina Apostolova.

The successful candidate will obtain a fully funded 4-year PhD position at the Institute for Neuroscience and will be enrolled into the PhD Program of Neuroscience at the Innsbruck PhD-School for Biomedical Sciences (

The Institute for Neuroscience ( is equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities. The Group


Our research is focused on understanding the molecular basis of cognitive functions and dysfunctions as well as the neurobiological impact of genetic risk loci. We are employing a broad spectrum of functional genomics approaches (HiC, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, CUT and RUN) and experimental validation (behavioural analysis, neurophysiology) in several in vivo and in vitro model systems, ranging from knockout mouse models to primary cortical cultures and human iPSC-derived neurons.


Your profile


  • You are highly motivated, with excellent M.Sc. or equivalent degree in neuroscience, molecular medicine, molecular biology or other related field.
  • Ideally, our background is situated at the crossroads of molecular neurobiology and epigenetics.
  • You are willing to employ mouse genetic models and study mouse behavior.
  • You are fluent in English and have strong communication skills.
  • Bioinformatics skills (R and Python) are considered a bonus.
  • Willingness to contribute to the development of your PhD project by implementing own ideas as well as readiness to take over responsibilities are absolute must.
